Alternative Systems

SoilAir

SoilAir Systems put a whole new twist on the traditional structure and mechanics of a septic system. Firstly, instead of an airless, sealed system (anaerobic), the people at SoilAir have introduced oxygen making it an aerobic system. This presence of oxygen in the leach field essentially “jump starts” the bacteria and the rate of the breakdown of the organic waste material is increased.

Over time, the traditional system will fill the surrounding ground with waste and "clog" the ground so that it can no longer take any more input of septic. This is when the system fails. A SoilAir system largely prolongs this occurrence.

GeoMatrix

We have worked with GeoMatrix products and employees on many jobs. We have extensive experience with the GeoMat, GeoU, and GST systems. This system can be thought of as a more compressed version of the standard concrete galley and stone leaching system, without the concrete galley. This is achieved through the use of a removable form that leaves a direct contact between soil and leaching system. Various models exist with heights of 6", 12", 18", 24", 30", and 36". More similar to the dated stone trench type of system, the GST disturbs much less land than the use of traditional methods.

Eljen Mantis

The Eljen Mantis System acts much like any other leaching system by providing an extensive filtering process for which the effluent to pass through before being absorbed by the ground surrounding the leach field. It consists of a perforated pipe that feeds a plastic meshwork (providing high levels of surface area for biological growth). This plastic is encased in a specific fabric and the whole unit is surround by approved septic sand. The effluent is filtered through the fabric and sand and returns to the ground with improved clarity.

GreenLeach Filter

The GreenLeach Filter field an alternative system used when space is constricted, such as small beach community properties. The finger-like accordion design provides an increased surface area for a higher leaching rate. As you can see in the photo, the entire leach field is constructed of two materials; cardboard and a fabric paper. However, the cardboard is temporary, disintegrating over time with the constant application of moisture and wastewater. It acts only as an initial support system to the fabric, and serves no purpose after the installation phase. The core area, inside the fabric, is filled with select septic grade sand. Stone surrounds the sand filled fabric paper, providing an aerobic atmosphere to increase effluent breakdown and leaching.
